Down a tiny lane in the Cotswolds, not far from the celeb hangouts that are Daylesford and Soho Farmhouse, you’ll find a house and grounds that time forgot. Set in a 2,000-acre estate, Cornwell Manor is Englishness personified.
We first came across Cornwell when we were asked to scope the venue for an overnight event on behalf of a client. Greeted by the lovely Charlotte, Director of Events, we were given a tour and promptly fell in love.
An exclusive use property, the venue lends itself rather spectacularly to weddings, private house parties and outdoor events. With 12 bedrooms, a beautiful ballroom (which seats up to 80 for a dinner), huge fireplaces and comfy sofas, the whole place oozes romantic country chic. There’s something about it that’s grand but comfortable and you’re made to feel very welcome.
Outside, there’s a swimming pool, tennis courts, stunning gardens and even a Norman Church. The whole place exudes such a happy, magical vibe, we half expected dancing nymphs and a unicorn in the garden (cue vague disappointment not to find any).
Charlotte has a long list of trusted suppliers who compliment the venue well for events, from caterers to florists, marquee companies to mobile cocktail bars. Such is the flexibility of Cornwell, no two events there are ever the same.
Now firmly on the celebrity circuit, weddings at Cornwell have featured in the glossy pages of Hello magazine, see James Jagger, US Vogue, and the property has also featured in the likes of US Town and Country. David Cameron hosted a lunch there when he was PM and the venue even appeared in the film The Holiday, with Jude Law and Cameron Diaz. Their success is showing with the bookings already taken, “I hope you’re enquiring about next year” Charlotte said when we rang her recently, “weekends this year are fully booked!”.
